ROSENTHAL 1986 Christmas Plate Oude Kerk in Amsterdam is the subject of this 1986 Rosenthal Christmas Plate, the 11th plate in Rosenthal “Classic Rose” Christmas series which began in 1974 as a continuation of the Rosenthal “Traditional Christmas” series, which ran from 1910 to 1974. Multi-color underglaze hand-painted design on white porcelain, diameter 8.5 inches (21 cm). Pierced foot for hanging wire. Inscription (in gold): WEIHNACHTEN (German for Christmas) 1986. Design by Helmut Drexler. Marked on the back: WEIHNACTSTELLER (Christmas plate), UNTERGLASUR (Underglaze), and HANDGEMALT (Hand-painted). Original Issue Price in 1986 was $210. The 'Oude Kerk" (Old Church) was the earliest parish church Amsterdam. The central portion of the church was built about 1300 and was added to almost continuously until it reached its present size in 1571. The church had to close in 1951 because of the danger of collapse, but was completely restored and reopened in 1979.
