This porcelain square-shaped plate was created in 1970's, but this particular style, with the curved up square edges, is a very rare design to locate. It is absolutely PERFECT, with NO marring, wear, or issues of ANY kind! Because of the shiny nature, it is difficult to capture the amazing condition. The gold is a soothing, rich glowing matte highlighting the serene, whimsical scene, with the Scandinavian influence. I tried different lighting to try and give the best conveyance of the beauty. In person, you will be very pleased. It measures 4-1/4" from edge point to edge point, and 4-15/16" across the widest edges, with a rise up from the base of 1-1/4". This features a very stylishly robed, seated woman gently holding a bird. She wears a beautiful coronet of flowers, as well as sprays of foliage surrounding the design to perfectly balance the scene. It is in the very distinctive Scandinavian style and the glistening gold highlights the delightful scene. His work has been shown widely in Europe, in the United States of America first in 1954 and in Japan, Australia and Canada in 1968. Characteristics of Wiinblad's work include whimsical round-faced people, dressed in vaguely 19th-century costume. They are often surrounded by natural elements: twining vines, floral wreaths, and fantastical trees. When Wiinblad employed color, he did so with great assurance. His colors are saturated and strong—sometimes almost psychedelic—and are often supplemented with metallic gold or silver. Wiinblad was an important designer for the Rosenthal porcelain company. His most popular Rosenthal dinnerware design, Romance (Romanze), was a typical Wiinblad design in terms of its incredible level of fine decorative detail. Starting in 1971, he also designed an annual commemorative Christmas plate for Rosenthal. Wiinblad also designed ceramic pieces for Nymolle, a Danish pottery.
